Green river daydreams

" Liu Heng is one of contemporary China's most acclaimed and masterful writers, and with Green River Daydreams he has written "of the struggle between Western ideas and the old political system, all of it set against a supplely portrayed mountain and river landscape" (NPR's All Things Considered). Ears, the slave of a wealthy landowning family in the early twentieth century, bears witness to its spectacular corruption and decline. The family's prodigal son, Guanghan, returns from four years of study in Europe with a French engineer friend and a dream of starting a collectively run match factory, but has little interest in the bride his family has arranged for him. Her beauty and good heart have not gone unnoticed by Ears, however -- nor has her growing closeness to the Frenchman. Meanwhile, clashes between the Qing imperialists and the resistance are quickly becoming bloody -- and Guanghan's iconoclastic ideas do not remain free of suspicion for long. "[B]oth a coming-of-age story and a chronicle of the clash between forbidden love and duty." -- Publishers Weekly "A richly detailed realistic saga" -- Kirkus Reviews "A masterly blending of character and story in a compelling historical setting.... Highly recommended." -- Tom Cooper, Library Journal (starred review)"

Memoirs in China

Today, I'm so lucky - got a chance to watch Bright star (high quality) again; my wish has come true that Memoirs in China (The past of China) -  adapted from the novel Green River Daydreams by noted Chinese writer Liu Heng, is being rerun on HN1. And at 12:00pm, there is a great Chinese TV series on this channel, too. All my obsessions of solitude and melancholy have just come at once! It cuts me to the heart.. Though I know that watching Memoirs in China and Bright star again is just like breaking my heart apart over and over, I can't help it. I'd been waiting for these films for a long time.

Bright star

Ben Whishaw - my love; love him at first sight when I watched Perfume : The story of a Murderer for the first time. And Jane Campion - my idol. :)

Little dragon

Fionn Regan

I came across Fionn Regan and his songs in a late summer afternoon a year ago. It was raining outside and the sky was so grey. He blew me off. I drifted to a place I'd ever seen,  stunning and beautiful and soft and cloudy and sad...

... just need something can lighten up my mind these days, and only The underwood typewriter has done it so well. :)

Here, some of his songs I love most.

The cinematic orchestra

Patrick Watson

I've listened to Patrick for a long time. He reminds me of Donnie Darko and Satie and Philip Glass and Chris Garneau and Rufus Wainwright and Thomas Newman and Fitzsimmons and etc...not a comparison but Patrick's so talented and amazing! his lyrics, his moves in music, we can see lots of "face" of him - jazz with indie rock, blending of cabaret pop and classical music, sometimes lighten you up and sometimes kill you inside slowly like Lolita soundtrack by Ennio Morricone.
